We are super excited to announce that we have just been officially named as an Autism Friendly Business (AFB) by the Autism Society of Texas!
What is an Autism Friendly Business (AFB)?
Autism Friendly Business (AFB) is a program that was developed by the Autism Society of Texas in order to encourage and celebrate community inclusion.
Everyone can experience the joy of music at Lone Star.
Recognition of an AFB comes after each application has been reviewed by the Autism Society of Texas. This recognition allows all affected by autism to know where is a safe place in the community that is actively working to include individuals with autism through:
sensory friendly events;
partnering with the Autism Society of Texas;
has hired an individual with autism; and/or
much more.
Lone Star School of Music is proud to offer music lessons to everyone – including children with special needs. Many of our instructors are specially trained to teach students with autism and have gone through extensive training programs to better instruct autistic children. Keep an eye out on our website for indications of which instructors are autism-certified.
Autism often begins to show clear signs when children are toddlers (2-3 years old), but it sometimes becomes apparent earlier than that. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that 1 in 68 children lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It also more common in boys than girls. Not all children with Autism are mentally disabled – only one third have an intellectual disability.
Research has consistently shown the transformative power of music. It can positively impact health, social skills, and even the functioning of your brain. Especially for special needs children, music has the power to improve their lives. Hence, music & autism go hand in hand.
